Use the pause

The seconds before the audio begins are part of the Listening test. Strong candidates use this time to predict the answer type rather than wait passively.

Predict grammar

The course costs ______ per month. → number / price
Students should bring a ______ to the first class. → singular countable noun
The building is located opposite the ______. → place / building

Predict meaning

For “The speaker describes the new library as ______”, expect an adjective showing an opinion or evaluation. Listen for meanings such as modern, spacious, convenient, or impressive.

Expect paraphrase

IELTS tests meaning, not identical wording.

Question meaning: The trip was cancelled because of bad weather.
Audio: “We had to call it off because the conditions were too dangerous.”
